ORIGIN

Rosemary is a plant originating from the growing regions around the Mediterranean. Its scientific name is Rosmarinus Officinalis and it belongs to the Lamiaceae family.

This herb was used in Ancient Greece because it was believed to improve intellectual ability. Rosemary was also used for the hairstyles of the bride and groom on their honeymoon. The Egyptians, for their part, used this herb in many ceremonies because it was considered sacred. Rosemary began to be grown in many countries from the 16th century onward. It is now popular in many countries around the world.

CULTIVATION METHOD

Rosemary is made up of large strong green leaves, with a scent similar to incense. It has purple flowers, which emerge in bunches, and brown fruit.

Rosemary grows in sandy, clay and humid soils. Its small shrubs can reach a height of 2m. It should be planted in the sun to grow properly. It blooms from early May to late July. Rosemary can be harvested either during or after blooming.

HOW TO USE IT WHEN COOKING

Dried rosemary is characterised by its slightly minty, woody and bitter flavour. It is widely used in Mediterranean cuisine.
